I currently have a 2018 12.9 iPP and love it but have been thinking about upgrading to an M1 for a while. I use PiP quite a bit but I've always wished that I could have it where it was in it's own space and not have the PiP window overlap it like I do when I'm on my desktop iMac 27".

Can someone provide a screenshot of what Safari looks like with a PiP window off to the side not overlapping? Preferably with the Pip window in the #2 "middle" size. Anyone that's used it on the 12.9 knows there are 3 sizes for the PiP window. Not sure if it's the same in Stage Manager.

PiP window is meant to overlap.

Impossible in its current state. PiP window will overlap Safari.

Ahh OK. I thought I had read that with Stage Manager PiP is treated as a separate window that can be put in it's own space.

So I thought of a possible workaround. Assuming you can have two Safari windows open, you could do PiP on one of them and make the Safari window as small as possible. That way PiP is still overlapping but one of the Safari windows. The other can be free.

If I had an M1 iPad I'd go ahead and try the beta. I have it on my 12 Max and it's been great.

Well, yeah you can use two Safari windows in Stage Manager.. but that's no better than using Split View. You don't necessarily need a M1 iPad to do that.

Can you not resize the second window vertically? I already do it now with Split View but you can’t resize the SV window. Ideally I was hoping that I could have a 3rd window at the same time.

Perhaps with Stage Manager on external display… but on the iPad itself, space is limited.

Here are a couple of screenshots, with Safari and a PIP video playing. I put Calendar beside Safari, because otherwise the browser is more centered on screen. The PIP size is not the biggest option available, but also not the smallest.

(The black frame is an actual pip-window, my local tv app prevents screenshots.)

Bonus-Content: You can always make it side-by-side, like someone mentioned in this thread. This is even possible without Stage Manager, obviously.

Edit: picked a wrong image.

@d3n Thank you!! This is exactly what I was looking/hoping for. Also since Safari's size can be reduced, PiP in the medium setting barely overlaps which is good enough for me.

Space is limited. You can do that without Stage Manager… using Split View and having PiP somewhere not obstructing view. The method I suggested using an external display gives you a better layout.
