Shrinkydink derived from Minimize In Place which was in the Panther or Tiger betas. It could be enabled in the Terminal

The icons looks gross in perspective. If you choose the Hide option in the Stage Manager Control Center the icons will be flat and face on and auto-hide. Looks better.

It just goes to show that even scrapped ideas are put 'on the shelf' for lack of better terms.
Indeed. Let's hope something like true "resolution independent UI scaling" is still on "some shelf" in Cupertino too. I remember there was some rudimentary support for it in Mac OS X Tiger and then they scrapped that and later replaced it with the integer HiDPI scaling we have today.

It would be nice if they brought that back with a proper implementation too.

Do you mean the purple Henry Moore sculpture O.Ds on amphetamines thing?

I suspect it is Apple tying itself in knots so as not to be racist, sexist, anything-elsist; and, as a result
ending up looking very odd indeed.

I am seriously tempted to dig my PPC Mac Mini out from under the finger puppets I used for my Primary EFL Lockdown classes to try out that rocky visual effect (which, between you, me and the rest of the world look nicer
there than it does in Misadventura) . . . so, pray tell, anyone know HOW to get it up and running?

the original article about this old beta has been pulled from the site it was on, presumably because it contained screenshots of an internal-only beta build of Mac OS X that, I guess, weren't really meant to be shown to the public

Now those 2006 icons were so nice to look at. My first Mac was a 2006/2007 MBP 17 inch and watching this screen shot brings back very good memories :)

So tempted to install the public beta. I really want to try stage manager. I really like the look of it.
