Hey everyone,

I've been working on making custom Dock utility widgets in Dashcode and have finished up with my second widget called StainD-GlasS. It allows you to change the color of your dock by clicking the color on the widget. So far, it only has Green, Red, Light Green, Teal, Matrix style and original dock. I will be working on updating the widget and offering more color/style choices.
UPDATE: Version 1.1 has now been released and is available at the links listed below.

There are a few things you should know before using:
- MAC OS X 10.5 ONLY!
- the widget download is 2.9 meg due to the png file sizes.
- Close all terminal windows before using (contains killall dock and terminal commands)
- This requires an admin password to use. Blank passwords will NOT work.

Upcoming update

So, I hope everyone is enjoying StainD-GlasS Version 1.0 thus far. Today I have spent about an hour making a few more color options and will be updating the widget. So, here is a list of the planned changes for version 1.1:

StainD-GlasS Version 1.1 Changes:
- Adding AT LEAST 5 new color patterns (Yellow, Purple, Dark Blue, Orange Cream and Dark Dock)
- Removing "Matrix" dock (for space reasons)

What to expect in later 1.X builds:
- More color choices
- the Return of styles (like Matrix)

What I will be working on for version 2.0:
- Smaller widget download size
- Automatic updates
- Ability to add custom made colors to the interface
- Redesigned UI

Any/all suggestions are welcome.

I've just finished working on version 1.1 and will be updating the site shortly. Here are some screenshots of the dock styles for version 1.1 as well as the interface. I will post more below. I think that my favorite so far would have to be the black/purple.

I'll put in into version 1.2 ASAP. Before I release it though, I would like more suggestions from users in this forum.

2- Metallic look (steel or chrome look?)
3- Grassy texture
4- "Space" Theme - Black w/ some stars etc.
5- Option to change the running app indicator from the blue dot to another shape and/or color

Yes. I will try to keep this thread updated whenever I update StainD-GlasS.

Does this work with the non 3-d dock?

Unfortunatally, I have not done anything to change the 2D dock. I do have DoCk-SwApR (my first dock changing widget) but that just changes it from 3D to 2D. I will toss that into version 1.2 as well.

But sorry, StainD-GlasS only changes the 3D Dock.

A little our of topic, but do you have a version of that background in a higher resolution (ie 1440x900) that you are willing to share?

I have a massive one but I will have to photoshop it for that size, I can do that though I probably wont have it up until tomorrow, in class right now haha. I may just get back on my desktop and rerender a bunch of size versions so it is perfect but would have to find the file.

That's great! However you don't have to crop it for the exact size, just post a big size and i'll crop it myself, don't worry! That way, people with bigger displays can also use it.

the is the only one I have on my macbook its 2560x1024, much different ratio than the one above but you can cut out the middle and move them closer then crop what is extra. Will try to get something else up in the day or so. This one I will put up in just a bit the internet is awful at my school and macrumors wont let me post a file as big as it is. Will post it in about an hour.

I like the blue one that has been added.

I second the request for no S curve and maybe for some dark/metallic sleek looking ones. Also, changing the dot would be nice.

The most common reason for this would be that the account that you are using is not an admin account. After testing this on my macbook, this widget was found to be unusable by a standard user account. I am sorry for any confusion that this might have caused. I will look into is to see if there is anything I can do to fix the problem.
