Standalone Notes?

Guys--

Anyone know if you can use the notes functionality in Mail.app as a standalone app?

I've used Evernote but I *hate* the iPhone version and haven't found anything else that might suit to sync between Mac OS X and iPhone wirelessly.

Suggestions welcome :)
