I have my TV, Home Cinema and other gadgets all plugged into a power grid which then goes into the mains. This means I can just turn it off at the wall and everything gets turned off.

However, I find it extremely annoying that the Apple TV never stays in standby mode if the mains power is turned off.

I wish Apple would improve the standby mode on the Apple TV - I find it bad that the unit stays fully powered and hard drive spinning until you turn it off.

True, its a bit annoying. One push of the button and all my AV systems goes on or off using my Sony Commander. I think I can program my Sony Commander to emulate the sleep command on the ATV remote. Time to pull out the manual. Just need it to copy the play button press for 5 seconds.
