The crazy thing about it was that it was going on during the speech last night! I'm sure there were quite a few people hoping things wouldn't blow up last night......he's not that far from the White House - 1/2 mile at most.

heh...yeah...I'm sure it was meant that way too...

he could have very well been dillusional enough to feel he could draw attention away from Bush...who knows...

He's at the red circle - look at how close he's to the White house.....That's also why they've closed a couple buildings and only have pedestrian traffice to several others.

yeah...that's actually a bit scary when u think about it...

u don't wanna mess with any potential threats THAT close to the White House...

so what's the latest developments?

if he truly has claimed to have explosives, as the article says, they should shoot him. end of problem, goodbye psycho.

that was one beautiful thing about the airport incident in california. the guy pulls a gun in the israeli airline terminal, starts scaring everyone, and then he gets shot. case closed. you threaten people with death, you die. no standoff, no businesses losing money, no tv chase. bam, dead.

What a completely unthoughtout position. One obvious problem in this particular case could be that the pyscho might have a deadmans switch. Kill him = Kaboom! And who knows what kind of nasty explosives he may or may not have?

It's a good thing Kim Jong Il doesn't think like you do. He's already been put on the Axis of Evil list and knows that he could be next. Under your logic South Korea, Japan and possibly the West Coast could be looking for nuclear-tipped missiles headed their way.

Life isn't a Robocop movie.

heh, nice point. i really didn't think of the deadmans switch. at the same time, a farmer from NC doesnt seem smart enough.

i like the robocop comment.

Y'all have to admit that it is a nice change of pace to read about a protest that isn't war related. :D

I really can't believ it

This morning he's still there....it will be 48 hours today without sleeping, this guy has stood off the police.

At least they figured out how to contain it and not affect the traffic.....

D

this is so lame...

they should just shoot the ******* already and end it...

don't have to kill him...but honestly...do SOMETHING to bring resolution...

only in America do we protect the dumb people...

Re-read my post for the first time, and I would like apologize for my belligerent tone sparkleytone, it was uncalled for. :( Sorry.

Sad.

It's sad that we have people doing these sorts of things. But since the world is so complicated now and the opportunities for such things as dead man switches are very real, we have to treat every potential threat on the same level.

Glad to see they got him though. That's a bit too close to the White House if you ask me.

With all of the media focused on the war, not much more will be made of this, unfortunately. But it did end peacefully and no one was hurt. Although traffic and DC were severly affected for a couple days.

You can only imagine from this how bad it would actually get if something actually did happen. :(
