For some odd reason Google pulled it's sky app sometime ago, but the best free star maps app I've found is Star Chart in the Apple app store.
It's really a neat app that shows you where all the stars and planets are in the sky. Makes you wonder about other life forms in the universe and just expands one's mind. Seems to work well and dial right into the GPS with no problems. Real accurate.
It's a pretty nice map of the universe. Makes one really think about what's out there and one needs to use one's imagination due to NASA being so secretive about the same program we get taxed on and pay for.
The free version does have ads in it, but for free it's nice to pull out once in awhile and see where the planet's and stars are tonight. Just wish Google didn't pull it's sky app because it was very detailed, but Star Chart doesn't go without a fight, it's about the most we are going to see. Well thanks to secretive Nasa.
