Yeh this is the best option 99% of the time. Unless you have some graphical problems which require you to manually adjust

On the MBA I use all lowest settings, but I do use the native resolution of the screen. I do believe higher level players will generally use low settings as well as responsiveness is a priority.

Higher-level players won't be on a Macbook Air. For "normal" gaming computers (like those that good players will be playing on) SC2 is nowhere near taxing even on Ultra compared to some other games.
