Start-Up Proccess

How do I turn of unwanted start-up proccess on a PC(windows XP Home)? Lots of programs turn on while I turn on my computer and i just want a select few to turn on.
I know this is a Mac forum so iIapologize, but I find people on this forum very knowledgable, even about PCs.

Use this program by Mike Lin - you can either have the EXE version or the Cpl and access that from the control panel.

go to start->run

then in the command line, type "msconfig" without the quotes and press enter.

then you will get a dialogue box and if i remember correctly, there will be tabs or buttons near the top, click on the one furthest to the right; It probably will say startup item or something. Then just uncheck what you don't want to start up.
