Started with 310gb, ended up with 294gb

Hi there, I just bought my first macbook ever, and I set it up and started downloading the WoW installer from battle.net.
I was also playing around with getting wine to work (for a different game, i know WoW has mac installer), and i watched my hdd go from 310gb remaining down to 294gb in about 5 minutes, it just kept counting down.
not sure why it has taken 15 gb's WoW only downloaded about 70mb and wine i couldnt even get it to work.

could anyone help me?

Take a look at DiskInventory X, OmniDiskSweeper, JDisk Report or GrandPerspective to see where your HDD space went to.

ok well it says my world of warcraft folder is 10.2GB, when the updater only ran for about 3 minutes. does it assign it some space before hand or something?

I just looked again, and my capacity actually shrunk from 310GB to 297GB.
I'm confused as to why its done this

exactly, its the same with torrents. - which happens to be what blizzard uses to distribute their content.

You could take a look at the individual files and folders inside the WoW folder and see where the HDD capacity went to.
I don't know WoW, but I imagine it needs some GBs to store its maps and such.

you didnt accidentally partition the drive at all, or anuything?
