Me & my girlfriend both have seperate user accounts on my iMac, seperate iTunes accounts and different apps but share all the music, films and tv shows.
The majority of the music is in my music folder (/Users/ben/Music) which she has read/write access to, there are a few albums in her music folder (/Users/em/Music) and all the videos are on an external drive that we both have read/write access to. Both our iTunes folders are stored in our respective music folders.
I want to let iTunes organize all the music, films & tv shows so I'm planning to move both our music libraries to the external drive (which will also make it easier as all music will be in one place) and use that as the iTunes folder for both of us.
I've spent all day tidying up id3 tags and cover art so a lot has changed in the library so was thinking it might be quicker to just delete both our iTunes libraries completely, move all the music over to the external (which will then contain all our pictures, videos & music) and start a fresh library for both of us but want to check a few things.

Is it safe to just delete the iTunes folder on both of our accounts then move the music over to the external open iTunes up, set the new location and re-add all the media so it creates a new library (also I noticed inside the iTunes folder we both have a "Mobile Applications" folder, if i delete these will they just be recreated next time we sync our iphone/ipad?)

Is it going to cause any problems having both our iTunes folders in the same location? (things like the iTunes Music Library.xml files and both having different paid apps for iphone & ipad)

Can we both set iTunes to copy media to the iTunes media folder when adding to library? (so if either of us rips a CD from our user account the files will be added to the external)

Sorry for rambling on a bit but just wanted to check before I end up losing our music or paid apps etc
