So I have a 2015 MacBook Pro 13 inch and have loved it over the years. (brag about it often) lately the fans have been coming on just doing simple tasks like browsing the web, excel, spotty etc. I've used about half the memory (500gb out of 1tb) It seems as if its getting sluggish as well. Im wondering if i just wipe it and start from scratch (no backup) and just send the folders and stuff id like to actually keep on it if this would help. thoughts? (thanks)

Clearly it could be something failing, but in the meantime I would do a reinstall and see if that helps. Could be something sucking resources, lots of ways to work through that as well, but I would do a reinstall and see what happens. I look forward to seeing what you find.

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro 13 (bought Dec. 2016), and it still runs GREAT.

I -WOULD NOT- trade it for ANY of the "latest and greatest" MacBook Pro's, considering all the user-reported problems I've seen with them.

OP -- if your MBP is acting "sluggish", then it's time to find out WHY, and fix the problems.

Here's something quick-n-easy you can try as an experiment:
- Open "users & groups" (system preferences)
- Create a NEW user (for test purposes). BE SURE you give it administrative privileges. Give it a simple name ("test"?) and password. It's only "for testing".
- DON'T put anything into this new account, other than Apple-provided software
- Now, log out of your "regular" account, and log into your new, "test account".
- Do things "get snappier" if you try this?
- If things suddenly "run better" logged into the test account, then it's something in your "regular" account that is mucking things up.

Doing this will "hurt nothing" and if you wish, you can just delete the test account later on.

I WOULD NOT "wipe" any Mac without some kind of backup.
Do this, and you may end up a VERY unhappy user.

If you have a spare drive, you can download either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper and create a bootable cloned backup. Both are free to download and use for 30 days, so doing this will cost you nothing.

Try cleaning the fans, I did that on my old 2010 and it made a world of difference in quieting it down. Your computer is likely suffocating on dust and dirt.
