sometimes when i start the computer and leave it until it starts up. when i come back it takes a couple sec to load the disks back up(is this usuall)

also when i leave the computer for 5 min and come back it takes sec to again put the disks back.

I don't think this is unusual, with either the iMac or other Macs if you've elected to put the hard disks to sleep when possible. Essentially, they "spin down" to conserve energy, and I imagine presumably to extend life, and starting back up requires a moment or to for them to get to speed.

Since you're running on power, and not battery, spinning down the disks may help to preserve some very moderate amount of power, but it doesn't really help in your situation. Putting the display to sleep more quickly is probably more environmentally friendly, if that's the concern.
