I have a new MP Quad and I am noticing that I am always having to repair my startup disk. I will notice the system start to slow down, I will have Onyx verify startup disk and it tells me to repair it. I will boot to SL DVD, repair the disk and it will run fine for awhile but eventually end up in the same situation.

Do I need to reinstall SL or is this a hardware issue?

Does disk utility say it needs repairing too?

I always do a fresh custom install on any Mac i buy. mines 5 months old and ive had to repair the disk once.

How old is the Mac? Did this problem start after installing any software? or has it always been like this?

the disk (hardware) could be on its way out. I know your machine is new, but not all HDD's are created equal. It could be bad sectors/blocks which is unrepairable.

check for bad blocks if you have access to a utility that can do so.

first thing to do to check if there is a hardware issue is to back up your data, initialize the drive and do a clean install. if you have problems after that, then its most likely hardware related.
