How do I remove stuff from it if I can't locate it in Finder? For instance, I'd like to save all of my music outside of iTunes if possible. That would free up lots of room in the limited staorage on this machine.

If you download and run a shareware program called Disk Inventory X (hopefully you have enough space to run this small program) it will give you a good understanding of what files are taking up space on your computer and where they are located.

Thanks, I'll look for it now.

Also, BTW, you can put your iTunes files on an external drive if you want.

There are other people who are more knowledgeable than I am re: how to do this, but I think the gist is that you have to move the files and then re-add them to your iTunes library. First you also have to make sure that iTunes is configured (via the preferences dialog) to not "copy music," i.e., copy the music BACK from your external drive to internal drive automatically, since this would obviously defeat the purpose. :)

That would probably result in the loss of some meta-data, e.g. how many times a track has been played.

The official way to move iTunes files to a different folder is described here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201562

There some tools that can make statistics, which folder store how much size. I used DaisyDisk, very useful for me (my MBA has only 128GB storage). But other tools with similar functionality should be also ok.

Copy your User>Music folder to the external drive and with the iTunes preferences change the Music Library location.
