so I was doing ok, left my windows 7 with bootcamp on overnight as I went to bed. Note: my laptop display if buggered so I use a monitor 24/7.

I wake up, my mouse doesn't work and I can't do anything so I hard power off, turn back on and it doesn't boot. Normally it would go straight to windows. I manage to get it to the recovery screen and k try to reinstall OS X but it can't find a disk to install it on, this is my disk utility screen

Can you boot from an external? Do you have an external with an OS on it?

You could probably go to http://scsc-online.com and visit their How To section then the article on drives. There's a lot of info there about trying to isolate problems like that. They make the product Scannerz but the system has to be running to use it.
