How would I go about making certain programs launch at startup?

For example--I'd like X-Charge to c'mon at StartUp, as well as iCal (though hidden if possible).

I have no knowledge of anything! haha

Don't know how basic to make this, so please don't be offended. :) The startup items are defined on a user level.

Click on the Apple menu in the upper left. Click System Preferences. Click on Accounts. The rightmost tab is "startup items." You can add new items with the "+" at the bottom, and checking the checkbox means the item launches itself hidden.
