Hey everyone. I have a Macbook Pro MC666ll/a. It is a core i7 15" with the AG screen. The issue I am experiencing is a random static noise coming from my speakers every now and then. If i have external speakers plugged in then the sound comes from the external speakers. Is this normal?

not normal

Sorry....this is not normal. I've listened to many hours of music, both internal speakers and external and have never experienced this. Take it to an apple store to have it looked at.

I've had something similar happen. take it to Apple, they'll probably replace the IO board. or at least that's what they did to my early '08 MBP.

Do you use Outlook 2011? If so, turn off the "no new mail" alert from the sounds & notifications preferences. The soud was driving me crazy and found out by accident this was the problem for me... :D

Outlook 2011 was the problem!

this was super helpful, thanks a lot! Would never have suspected Outlook, really thought this was a hardware problem. Who would design a sound that is so awful you think your computer is having problems?

Do you have a Blackberry or other cell phone sitting next to your computer. My BB used to do this whenever it would ping the network or something like that. Moved it further and it stopped.

Interestingly enough - my iPhone doesn't do it.

I just found the solution!!! Try unplugging the power cord, see if you still hear the static. I think it's electrostatic noise that the power cord picks up, like a radio antenna. So trying to move your computer to a different location or move the cord around. I shortened the cord, by unplugging the long part and inserting the little plug into the plastic square adapter and plugged it directly into the outlet. The noise dropped by around 70% and is now quite tolerable. Good luck!
