Whenever I record a video or audio from somewhere, there is always a loud static noise. Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvCuOh-FHGc You might have to turn up your volume a bit to hear it.

Is this normal or should I get it exchanged? This is probably just me being a perfectionist...

Oh, I just didn't think it'd be that loud. When I listen directly from the iPod's speakers with no background noise in the video, the static seems almost too loud. Well, anyway, thanks.

Sure.

The mic is continuously trying to pick up audio. When it's very quiet, it's still recording audio, but since it can't hear anything you get the static noise.

Voices are mid-range sounds and come out good on modern camcorders. Wind and other blowing sounds are usually low/high range. That's why you can hear voices very well even when wind is blowing into the microphone.
