static on the line?

Hey everyone, I have Sprint (I know, I know but they are by far the cheapest for my budget), and yesterday I started having calls that were not clear, basically static with the voice in the background. Weird thing is it only happened on some calls, not on all and this is new yesterday. I made a phone call on my way to work this morning to test it and did not have the same problem.

Question is, is this phone or Sprint? I am going with Sprint since it doesn't happen all the time but wanted to get some other opinions. I am not going to make a genius appointment for a perfectly fine until now phone that has no issues as I could end up with one that doesn't work. Just want to see what y'all think.

It's because the noise canceling works in the time domain now instead of the frequency domain.

Could you explain? It is only some of the time I have the static and I made sure it was not the speaker by checking a static call on the phone speaker, speaker phone and through headphones.
