For christmas, I just bought "dragon naturally speaking 11" for my windows-based father: a really amazing program, unlike anything I have seen before!
I saw there is a mac-related program from that company (nuance), which seems to be based on the former "macspeech dictate".
I also heard that it needs USB-microphones and does not work with built-in microphone or line-in-solutions, as an amplification seems to be needed which the existing hardware may not provide properly. there is a workaround described involving two programs re-wiring the audio signal, but there seem to be some problems with that.
Back in 1996 or so, OS 8 already had some quite interesting speech recognition features built in - although they were not really useful for work or anything productive IMHO. But since then, I haven't seen any big improvements in this field - which may speak for my ignorance, laziness and unwillingness to look around, but also for a possible lack of progress in that regard.
Does anyone have info on the latest status of voice recognition on OSX?
Any recommendations, experiences or info on technology?
I really want to think that progress has been made somehow in the last 14 years. Hopefully, not only in the Windows-related world.
(BTW, there is a free app by nuance for iOS which works pretty well, too. Does the OSX-equivalent can keep up to this?)
