While we don't know what all macOS 26 will offer compared to 15.5, the rumors are out there of course which is great to start thinking ahead of whether or not to actually stay with Sequoia or not.

UI features can usually be toggled on or off, so it may not end up being that big of a deal when 26 finally is available. Some folks with older systems won't even have a choice but for those of us who could make the switch, is it full speed ahead or take a wait and see approach?

At this point, I'm fine with 15.5 and none of the rumors have really piqued my interest. If some software will eventually only work with 26 installed then certainly no option to stay.

Because it really can't be any worse! Absolutely hated Sequoia.
On .5 it only has two persistent bugs for me – sometimes drag’n’drop in Finder doesn’t work, and there’s the Time Machine issue where backups don’t get completed because either ‘an error has occurred’ or the networked drive ‘ejects’ itself. What else do you have problems with? (I’m ignoring the Music app, which is a clusterduck of its own epic proportions.)

[Edit: I forgot that since the .4 update my M4 MBP gets warm while doing nothing and the battery life took a hit. I could live without THAT. But with my usage it’s still all-day battery life, only I have one hour left at the end of the day instead of the expected eight.]

I wish I could have Sonoma on a M4 MBP. My partner is still on Sonoma because of the TM bug. If that is fixed in Tahoe, I might be tempted to upgrade. But I’ll definitely let others test the .0 and .1 versions unless my graphic design past can’t resist the pretty.

...there will come a time when turning off Apple Intelligence (ever the oxymoron) will not be a option. No idea if that'll be with Tahoe or not, but be prepared. Because Apple has traditionally operated as a Nanny, and done stuff because it 'knows' what user's actually 'want', even when users specifically say no.

I usually wait 4-6 months before upgrading to the newest OS. I didn't wait quite that long with Sequoia (I think it was 2 months, if memory serves), but I didn't have any issues until the .5 update, which caused a MBP-to-monitor connection problem.

I like to give them a few months to iron out the worst bugs before I sacrifice my laptop to the latest and greatest.

My 2018 Mini still runs on the OS it originally shipped with (Mojave).

My 2024 Mini (of course) uses Sequoia.
I'll put os26 onto an external drive, if that's possible.
Did the same with the 2018 Mini -- I have an external SSD with Sequoia on it, so it's "dual-bootable". Old OS for 32-bit apps, new OS for... well... "new".

That's an interesting arrangement.

The possiblity of keeping Sequoia on the internal drive (or house, as it were) and Tahoe on external (or out in the garage, to stretch this bad pun) could be a path worth pursuing, unless for security/AI reasons Apple doesn't allow it.
