steam on macbook pro 2011

So i just got my new macbook pro yesterday(high end 15inch) and im trying to get steam going on it to play a few games and whatnot.
ive got it installed fine, but when i load it, it updates itself then either says:
1: steam needs to be online...
2:steam cant find the username or your login name/password is incorrect.

it opens fine on my windows machine so i know i have the right login info.
i tried the suggestions on the steam for mac forums and from google search but for the life of me i cant get it to work.

this is my first mac in about 15years so i may just be missing something, any help is appreciated.

Reboot, try again. If not, contact Steam.

Have you repaired Disk Permissions? Also try installing the EFI update from May 4th.

I have installed 4th May update. Everything seems alright, Steam login has no trouble for me

Have you received an email from Steam with a code to allow access on that machine?
