Steam Video files from Mac to VLC on other Devices

Right so hoping someone can help with this. I have a folder on my Mac which I have shared on the network.

I was donated an Amazon Fire TV which I have installed VLC on, I was under the impression I could just click on Network in VLC and it would see the shared folder on my Mac so I can play videos in the folder.

I have also installed VLC on my iPad which fails to see the shared folder too.

Where am I going wrong people? Is it not this simple?
