My question is pretty simple: does Steermouse simply fade into the background and not cause, say, trackpad conflicts when a mouse is unplugged? Is it something one can just leave running while on the go with a notebook computer and no mouse? Not at all resource-intensive, I assume?

this post is somewhat old but i thought id answer for anyone else who was wondering since i just started using steermouse.

steermouse manager uses 3.5 mb of memory in the background. almost nothing basically. a jpeg uses more.

cpu utilization stays at 0.0 percent when the mouse isnt moving. goes to 0.1 max on a core2duo machine when the mouse is actually moving around fast. not even 1%.

you can try the driver for 30 days so you can always see how it works for you before you buy.
