Greetings and salutations

What steps are prudent to take before factory resetting an iPhone 16 Pro? I'm not selling mine, but need to reset it as there is something that drains the battery too fast so I thought I'd start from scratch.

I saw this article over at OWC which lists these steps:

1. Backup, at least to iCloud but if possible also to a computer
2. Unpair any Apple Watch
3. Turn off iMessage (only applies if moving to a non-iPhone)
4. Turn off Find My
5. Collect any app licences and export 2FA settings

This seems like a good list to me.

But I'm wondering about removing the device from the iCloud account, logging out from iCloud/Music/TV and if there are any other steps one ought to take.

It's been a few iPhones ago since I did this and iOS has changed quite a bit so I'd very much like to hear your thoughts on this.

Thank you very much in advance

Digging into this further I'm wondering more about backups. Apple writes this:

Photos and videos on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro

If you haven’t turned on iCloud Photos, iCloud Backup may include photos and videos in your Photos or Camera Roll, as well as face information from the People & Pets album. When you use iCloud Photos, your photos, videos, and face information automatically sync to iCloud so they aren’t included in your daily backup.

That "may" is what makes me worried.

Due to space constraints, I don't have iCloud Photos turned on. My iCloud Backup is 8,5GB so is not large enough to contain my photos or camera roll.

I did make a backup to my Mac, which is around 120GB in size, so that ought to contain at least some photos and videos. But how can I be sure?

I'd hate to reset the phone and lose my photos and videos.
