I just wanted to know what are the best steps to get rid of all my info on the phone for good because I am going to be selling it tomorrow. Thanx

DO NOT UPGRADE TO iOS 4!!!! I got SIGNIFICANTLY less money and it was harder to sell my mint 3G because people wanted it with OUT the new software.

I am selling locally to a person that I do not know on craigs list.

Ok take pictures of the box, the serial number on the phone, the phone itself including any damaged area's, pictures of the box you ship in with the buyers address etc.

Just so you got yourself covered dude incase he/she pulls a fast one !

Do NOT show this person your serial number. I couldn't give you an exact reason not to, but common sense says other wise. I've read on the boards numerous times of why not to give away a serial number also, but the exact reason I can't recall.

Also don't ship anything. Deal locally and ask for CASH ONLY.

I doing the transaction in person in a public area. So i still should not show the serial number even im doing it locally?

I have not upgraded it to ios 4 and im selling it for 175 with a free case.

reset it to the factory settings in itunes will do the trick :)

Better to do an "Erase All Content and Settings", which you can find in your iPhone's Settings.

After you do that, activate it (but don't restore) so that you are able to show the buyer it works.

Before you give it to the buyer, don't forget to remove your SIM card.

There is no benefit to your buyer to see the serial number. When you meet him/her in person, you can show him any information he'd like. But taking a picture of it isn't necessary. I've sold every "old" iPhone I've had and not once have I been asked for the serial number, so someone specifically asking for it sounds fishy to me.

Ok thanx will keep that in mind.

I never said show the buyer the serial number I simply stated the op should take pictures of his phone for a record incase the buyer trys to place a false claim against him.

Take the pictures of your phone, many people here would advise you to do the same thing when selling anything to anyone you do not know.

Misunderstood you, my bad.

I definitely agree then. Keep screenshots of all the information on file in your computer just in case he tries to pulls something. (Again, my bad Frenchjay. I completely agree.)

I just sold my 3G, 8GB like 3 hours ago locally to a guy.

Just do a restore in itunes so everythings wiped, i also unlocked it for him. :)

May I ask how much your selling it for?

Man i just sold mine 3hours ago like i said.. for 360$ with a pretty darn worn case..

You should not take any lower than 200-250$ for that iPhone for yours

Well so far the deal is made, i mean im only losing out on like 25 bucks of what i paid for it almost 2 years ago.

Why would anyone pay $360 for an 8GB 3G? You can get a 16GB 3GS for less than that on craigslist...... are you sure you didn't tell him (or he didn't think) that it was a 3GS?

$175 for an 8GB 3G is a good price.

Oh the guy knew it was a 3G.. All he was concerned about was that it worked on Bell lol..

So i jailbroke and unlocked it!

It all comes down how you advertise the AD, and the picture that goes with it ad. Ive sold a ton of things so far, and the picture alone seals the deal 50%.

i think 175 is a fair price also being that the iphone 3g came out like 2 years ago.
