I plan to buy a new MBP soon. As this will be my first laptop, I’m looking for advice/input on things I should do when I first get the MBP to optimize performance, etc. I’m not necessarily talking about steps like upgrading the hard drive, but more along the lines of calibrating the battery. Both MBP-specific and general tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any tips/advice! (And I apologize if this topic has been posted before... I ran a search and couldn’t find anything, but if a thread like this already exists, please link me.)

calibrate battery
check optical drive read/write
click "about this mac" if you built to order, to see if you got what you paid for

thats about it :)

also find a good color profile

So far all the computers I've worked with new computer with the battery pre-calibrated.

And yes makes sure you got what you bought. I remember they gave me a glossy instead of a matte--check for that too (or vice versa).
