Apple's CEO Steve Jobs is the most compensated CEO according to a recent Forbes.com article. While much has been made about Mr. Jobs' $1 salary, the list takes into account "bonuses and other compensation, such as vested restricted stock grants, LTIP payouts and perks; and stock gains, the value realized by exercising stock options." Mr. Jobs currently sits atop the list of highly-paid CEOs, leading second place Ray Irani from Occidental Petroleum by two-fold.

Also noted is that Mr. Jobs is one of the most efficient CEOs, coming in at 36 out of 189. Efficiency is calculated by Forbes as a CEO's performance / pay.

Apple has recently been bringing in record profits, but has also seen scrutiny by the SEC for backdated stock option grants, including one large grant to Steve Jobs. Initial reports had suggested that he would avoid criminal charges in the matter, but comments by former CFO Fred Anderson may have opened up the door to another round of scrutiny.

Perhaps the highest compensated CEO, due to Apple's success - this is well deserved!

I'm sure being the 38th most efficient CEO is pretty good. But 38/189 barely made the top 20 percentile. I wouldn't call that one of the most efficient, not in that list anyway.
