Apple CEO Steve Jobs hints at new iMac debut on August 31 at Apple Expo in Paris.
http://www.macdailynews.com/comments.php?id=P2969_0_1_0

During Steve Jobs' WWDC keynote presentation, where he demoed Spotlight, Mac OS X 10.4's new system-wide metadata search engine technology, Jobs used the Finder's search box to search for the term "iMac" starting at 45:31 in the QuickTime stream of the WWDC Keynote. Immediately thereafter, Jobs demoed Address Book's use of "Spotlight" technology and used it to search for "Paris" starting at 46:52 and then used the term "birthday" to create a "Smart Group" in Address Book.

So, that's it, it's official: iMac's birthday will be in Paris! Which, of course, means the Keynote 2004 presentation for Apple Expo 2004 Paris, on Tuesday, August 31 at 10:00 a.m.

When Steve searched for Paris, I was wondering if some images or video clips on the drive that would come up during the demo. I am sure people will want a feature to not have some things be included on a search list when showing someone the search feature.

iMacs in the next 3 months is very likely.

Yeah, MacWorld is coming up soon in Boston, but I doubt we'll see any new iMacs there due to the fact that Apple will have no official presence. I guess they could release new product to try to steal some spotlight, but my prediction is that we'll see new iMacs at Paris, if they are G5s, and a quiet announcment if they are speed bumped G4s.

i would agree with this. even if he wasnt hinting at this its still about time for an update.

Interesting. I didn't pay much attention to the iMac reference. However, I did noticed that the "new" iChat icon does not have AOL's buddy icon. Maybe they are trying to get iChat compatible with MSN/Yahoo. :)

And if you look closely at the picture on the desktop, you'll see a man on a grassy knoll holding what appears to be the new iMac G5 :D

Sorry the devil made me do it.

heheh we really are getting desperate for this iMac update aren't we.

All the signs seem to point to the iMac G5 at the latest by Paris, it seems like they should be here sooner but I don't know where before that Apple will have a presence to release them. Are there any other expos with Apple attending.

it really doesn't matter cause lately apple hasn't waited for anything to release new updates. you just wake up one morning and they are available. saving it for the expo leads me to believe it is something he is proud of and wants to show it off, just like the new displays.

Agree completely, if it's saved for Paris it has to be a G5 or similar improvement and if there were such a change I would expect there to be a form factor change. The iMac form factor is definitely something Steve is proud of so I think he would save it for an expo.

If its just an update it will be out when its ready which is anyones guess. I wonder what would happen if the iMac G5 was ready soon, combined with low iMac G4 sales (from what I have heard) and low stocks, can he really save it till the end of August/start of September.

wasn't me

That was stunning detective work. If you're right, you become one seriously legendary dude! And all shall submit to wisdom of Varmit. :D

Sorry, I didn't find it. I found the article, and thought you guys and girls would like to see it, but I can't take credit for coming up with the idea of new iMacs.

you know..

you come on like apple owes u guys something. Apple doesn't release products based on this website at all. if they want to release a new imac g5 in year then they can. Remember when they released the totally re- designed ibooks at some random conference months ahead of macworld?? Yeah, tha's wha I thought.
