edit- wow i'm getting old on here.... :D

Only 3 billion? LOL

There are only about 600 billionaires in the world, so he's in quite an exclusive club.

I don't think he makes any serious cash off Pixar, tho i don't know what his stock holdings are. $3b is nothing to scoff at, for someone that's never seemed overly enthusiastic about greed. But maybe that's just a façade. Any rate, if he could just get richer than the waltons, i'd feel better...

Well, it's better to be worth only $3 billion honestly, than to be worth as much as Bill Gates is, with the way he achieved it.

I don't follow them too closely, and I may just be their PR, but it seems that the Gates Foundation does good work.

Call me cynical but isn't that just a way of avoiding paying tax? Granted, I agree it does great work but the reason it was established was not because Bill wants to help the world.

I wouldn't mind 10% of what he is worth...... hell, even 1% wouldn't be so bad.....

He's worth 3 billion, that's 3 thousand millions. Damn, that's a lot of millions. After certain amount though, it's all the same because you can buy anything you want. Anything reasonable, of course.

I looked more into this. He has more money then Donald Trump. Those casinos really must be loosing a ton of money. I think steve should have his own version of the Apprentice I wouldn't mind working for apple :p

Huh. The government created charitable tax exemptions specifically to encourage public charity. Hard to criticize someone for both doing good AND doing it just the way the government set it out to be done...

Now don't get me started on media barons who siphon money offshore to evade tax.

Pixar has been insanely successful, but have some perspective here. I realize not all of Pixar's money comes from the box office, but Pixar has released 6 feature films, and all 6 of them are on the top 100 all-time world-wide highest grossing box office list. Those box office totals add up to only $3.2b, and that money has to fund the creation of the movies, as well as pay off a lot more people than just Steve.

Steve Jobs owns little, if any, of Apple these days.

Somewhat off topic:
the collective net worth of the world's 691 billionaires is $2.2 trillion

The world's 691 billionaires could collectively afford to pay off only about 28% of the US National Debt.

He'd be worth about another billion if he would have taken the stock options offered him last year, according to Business Magazine.

Ooops. :)

When you say he is "Only" worth $3 billion. It's as though, something negative. I wouldn't mind being in his shoes. For Apple having less than a 5% market share, not bad at all.

Since inflation, in a decade we could probably see 3,000 billionaires since the price of goods doubles each decade. The people that can profit from such are the very ones who are rich. Duh! 3 billion is not much when compared to the old fortunes of people 80 years ago like the oil magnates.

Rockefeller was worth more in his day than Gates is nowadays. He didn't have as much money as Gates but if you know anything about economics you'll understand why Rockefeller was worth more.

I'll take .10% of jobs money anytime he feels like he has too much. I'm not too greedy.
