Currently have a 2010 iMac 11.3. Has the 3.2 GHz i3 & 16 Gb of RAM.
Not an exceptionally heavy user. Handbrake/music cd ripping 2-3 times per week and a bit of Boot Camp gaming. My heaviest use is as a stock trading computer on a Java platform using 4 monitors (27" & 3 Dell 24") 5 days per week and constant Safari use with 5-10 tabs and extra windows open.
Have considered installing an SSD, but am conflicted about the work involved and the limitation of 3g vs 6g.
Seems like the 2012 mini with a Fusion might be a good option for me, albeit more expensive as it would be faster. I'm also concerned as to whether or not I could run the 4 monitors on the mini, 2 of which from the Pluggable USB-DVI converters. Or I could just get the SSD for my current iMac.
My concerns are that the mini would be a faster machine than if I just threw a SSD into the iMac, and that the mini would actually be a faster machine even compared to the SSD iMac. I'm also not terribly keen on fumbling my way through putting a fresh install of the OS & the proper program onto the SSD, as I really don't have much of a clue.
So, what say you, MacRumorites?
