Anyone know why the time zone in the clock section of preferences would refuse to stay set? I set PDT and it reverts to GMT as soon as I close the window.

I've seen this issue before. Did you migrate from another machine? The solution is as follows:

1. With Finder as the active application, click Go > Go to Folder...
2. Type "etc" without the quotation marks, then click Go.
3. Delete the folder localtime.
4. Restart.

The localtime folder is supposed to be a symlink (looks like an alias). I've seen a few instances, particularly after a migration, where the symlink has turned into a standard folder (for whatever reason). Deleting it and rebooting has the OS create the missing symlink. Problem solved.
