Does anyone know if it is still possible to start up from mac os 9 on the new powerbooks?

I'm thinking of buying a new 15" with superdrive, but still have some essential music notation software that only works with mac os 9.
It doesn't work in classic mode under os x yet.

As far as I know it is possible on the former G4's, but I'd like to be sure it also works on new G4's before I buy one...

Thanks

you are out of luck, take a look at the emacs if you have to run os 9.

Thanks for the information. Too bad...
I guess my best option then is to try to find a secondhand pb g4,
an emac is not portable enough for me ;-)

It's called Igor from www.noteheads.com and is a very handy to use program, well suited for the modern composer.

I like it better than Finale. Which - as far as I know - is also not working properly in classic mode yet.

An os x version of Igor will probably not be available any time soon, that's why I'll need to be able to start up from mas os 9 still.

I could be insanely wrong here...but I don't think any PB that has a built in SuperDrive will let you boot into OS 9. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

As far as I know it's the FireWire 800 models that won't boot OS9.

I have one and it does.... (November 2002 revision.)

The Ti PowerBooks boot into OS 9. You can still find them, too. The CompUSA here has quite a few 1 GHz TiBooks in stock, along with many websites and you might even find one or two on the refurb section of the Apple Store, as well. Not only will they work just as well, but they will be a lot cheaper now that the new Aluminum PowerBooks are out.
