Hi

Have an around 5 year old iPad ( 7th gen ), the normal one.
Have transferred ( cable to pc ) and deleted a lot of photos and videos and have very little left, but photos storage is still full, it doesn’t decrease. It’s like it doesn’t register deleting it, I should have about 10-12 GB more space ( it’s a 32 GB ). I guess it’s a known bug or something, after reading online about it, and that Apple are not fixing??
Have turned the iPad off ( swiped ) several times, gave about 5 GB free space the first time, gives only 2-3 GB from other turnoffs. There’s also something ‘other’ in the storage, dunno what that is?? Guess it’s what are cleared ( not completely ) when I turn it off. I also cleared cache and search history.
I don’t use icloud, have always been turned off, don’t use itunes either.

I need to update but can’t cuz there’s not enough space for the update, and prolly won’t fix the storage bug anyway.
Have read that I might need to reset to factory settings to get it back to normal. Dunno what will happen if I do that, also need to change my Apple ID ( have written about it here ), but don’t how, if I can or what will happen if I do.

Can’t wrap my head around it all, and am also not tech savvy, it’s all very frustrating...
😔😟😔

Hope all have a merry christmas.

You can update using your PC. I believe doing that circumvents the free space requirement on the iPad.

I will try to keep this simple. Backup your iPad to iCloud or storage device. Go into settings and reset and erase the iPad.

This will eliminate a lot of storage space used by the OS through updates over time.

After reset check your storage to confirm but now you should have a lot more free space.

Good luck!

After deleting the photos did you go into the 'deleted photos' folder and clear that out? If you don't the photos will stay for 30 days in recently deleted until the housekeeping removes them

Not for nothing but when you delete a photo it goes into the photo apps trash an will remain there for thirty days. Go to the phot app and see if this is the case and delete them again from the trash.

Hi

I should ofc mention that I also deleted the items, from the ‘recently deleted’ ( 30-day folder ).

I see threads online where people write about doing hard restart/reset, some have luck with that and others don’t. I also see writings about manually changing the date, going back in time, again some have luck with that and some don’t. Have any of you tried this?

I’m worried about losing my games ( I don’t use that Game Center-thing ) if I didn’t have any games, I would just reset to factory and start over, to clear storage and make new Apple ID.

If the above mentioned “tricks” don’t work, I will check with the game supports to hear, if they can move my accounts/profiles to another device temporarily. I know one of them can, have had that moved to another device, I guess the others can be moved too.

Since @Gluten mentions he deleted quite a bit of photos (10-12GB) I wouldn't be surprised if they have even more, and considering they moved them to their computer and the fact about them taking up space, I would also assume they do not pay for additional iCloud storage. Additionally, it's entirely possible they have turned off normal Photos backup. Given this possibility and the fact that they have a computer, I would strongly recommend the backup to iTunes/Finder rather than iCloud.
Hi

What do you mean, can you explain?
If you have a Windows PC, download iTunes and connect your iPad, do a backup to the computer. Sometimes syncing an iOS device with iTunes will cause iOS to "refresh" and the amount of free storage will increase.

Past that, you can also update your iPad through iTunes on your PC. While it's plugged in click Check For Updates and iTunes will download the update to your PC and update your iPad through the cable, which doesn't have the free space requirements as updating directly on your iPad.

Take a look at what is taking up storage on the iPad:
Open settings
Open general
Open iPhone storage let it populate
You will see the bar graph on top, take look and the grap
You can by these functions
1) offload unused apps
2) Review large attachments (touch the right side arrow) you can delete from there

Bellow the abouve you will see a list of apps and there size, make sure it sorted largest to snallest, slide to the bottom and select show all.

Bellow that you can see hidden apps
IpadOS size, and the next is system data. Make sure there are no incomplete downloads there to be deleted

The other could refer to partial or unused or interrupted downloads my previous post will also show those.
