Still no solution to my hdmi audio question :(

I have a hdmi cord, a mini dvi cord and a rca audio jack. My macbook is late 2008 and my vizio tv is brand new. I have successfully connected the displays, I can see everything, but when i put in the audi jack i cannot hear anything. How do i fix this problem? I really need help. Thank for the help in advance.

System Preferences > Sound > Output > HDMI

I think pre-2012 MacBook doesn't give audio out via HDMI.
