If it's released next week for example, when would I be able to buy it and have it shipped to my house?

I'm confused because the iPad was announced last month and you still can't ship it immediately. Why is it that? Would the MBP take so long as well?

The iPad is a completely new product. The MBP updates are just changes to an existing product. So no, if it's just a minor update it should be available right away. Worse case scenario is that it may take a week or two.

thanks for the clarification :)

Normally apple seems to ship products within a few hours after announcement. (there are always exceptions). The macbook pro will probably be immediately available for shipment, since the changes to it are completely apple related. The ipad, however, had to be announced ahead of time, i'm guessing, because apple wanted their new platform to have book deals/software at launch time. And security would not have been very tight.
