Does anyone know if Apple has started shipping the new firmware installed on new iPhones, and if not yet, then when? I'm considering purchasing an iPhone after being a bit dissatisfied the with touch's lack of calendar/schedule entry and no to do list. Would it still be a good idea to go for an iPhone? Are there any significant bugs in the old version of the OS that interfere with use? I'm not planning to go with AT&T, I'd just like to ditch my PSP and PDA.

For those who purchased a BRAND NEW iPhone since the firmware update (1.1.1), was the firmware still 1.0.2 or is it 1.1.1 now?

I've been wondering that myself, I bought one the day the updates rolled and they were still 1.0.2.

Could they ship with 1.1.1 as early as the next day?

As a data point that may or may not be valid here:

The iPod Touch firmware was also updated to 1.1.1 on the same day as the iPhone. My buddy bought a 16GB Touch yesterday that has 1.1.1 (and was also a week 37! -no screen issues).

Were the iPod Touch originally 1.0.2?

I think you are safe for another few days or so...buy it form AT&T, they do not sell nearly as many iPhones as the Apple Store. You could aslo buy one from eBay or craigslist as well. I bought mine from the apple store here in Seattle, I actually went to Southcenter, just outside of Seattle...or you could always buy a 4GB if you can find one...they for sure have the old firmware :D

Is there anyway to tell which iPhones have the new firmware (1.1.1)? Like I know the iPod touch has like week 37, 38, etc you can tell from it's sn. Same for the iPhone???

i bought an iPhone last night and took back my iPod classic

it was loaded with 1.0.2 , but i updated right away to 1.1.1 as im with AT&T anyways

WEEK: 38

Just had a chat with an online Apple rep (I'm not sure how knowledgeable they are though) but here is a screenshot about the firmware issue:

Getting one from the :apple:store would be a safer bet. The online ones are more likely to come updated.

Doesnt AT&T require you to activate right there? maybe he doesnt want to get AT&T or a contract.

Updating takes forever! [ + 1hour ] with my download speeds :(

How dare you!!! I hate the third world.

Id be happy with with a meg.

Now someone fix my phone. :D

remaining 4 gb iphones

I bet it would be safe to buy a 4 gb phone since they arnt making those any more? i wonder how many they have left and for how long?

I went into the Apple Store for a replacement due to bubble in the glass on my iPhone.

The phone was firmware 1.0.2.

The Apple Genius insisted that before I leave with the phone that the firmware be updated to 1.1.1.

So he did before handing me the phone.

But you could have respectfully declined right?

Just bought some

I bought one on Saturday (in Chicago) and my girlfriend did the same sunday - both 1.0.2 if that helps. hackmyiphone has the code to enter as the emergency number so you can test the fw before you start activating (so you can return to the store, less the restocking fee).

That code is *3001#12345#* I remember when I used that code to "hack" the old nokias, good times.
