Heard rumours Apple was developing a cheaper larger Apple display a while back. Maybe they could offer the 32” display of the rumoured 32” iMac and make a stand alone display for all the Mac Mini’s and Mac Studios. Just a thought

Never. Gonna. Happen. EVER. "Cheaper" just isn't in Apple's vernacular. And as you probably know, if you "heard" ANYTHING about future Apple products, by definition it is a rumor – and as such is almost certainly inaccurate, if not outright made up.

Apple only has two types of products:
1. Shipping products that they have for sale on their website.
2. "We do not comment on speculation or unreleased products."

Apple only makes premium products, and the market for "premium" 4/5k displays just doesn't exist – because it's nearly impossible to manufacture a "premium" 4/5K display that can be sold for $400 to compete with lower-quality displays that the vast majority of the market thinks is "good enough." And even if it were possible, you can bet Apple would still sell it for $1,000+ and pocket the difference.

We would all LOVE to have a Retina-quality 32" display that costs even $500-$800. But the reality is it's just not going to happen with Apple.

Yeah, there is far too much competition in the “inexpensive” 4k/5k monitor space, especially from “gaming” brands. The Dell 32” 4k model is solidly “good enough” at the sub $1k price point.

"Still waiting for affordable Apple 30-32” display"

Get the point...?

Cheaper as in around the Studio Display but in the 30-32” size. The XDR pricing is off the charts. Looking to upgrade my 30 ACD’s

I prefer the Apple displays. Just don’t like their 30”+ display pricing!

I’ve had my 30 ACD’s since 2008. All still working. Still waiting to upgrade…

People said after Apple dropped the 17 MBP that was the end of large MacBook Pros. That 15” was big enough.

Then Apple released the 16” MBPs. And brought back a “matte” option with the Nano texture

It's a different Apple now than it was back then. Apple also made laser printers, stand-alone digital cameras, a gaming set-top box, and a host of other devices they'll also never do again.

It's not that there is no market for those devices, it's that there isn't a big enough market for them that Apple can produce a premium version of those products to meet profit expectations for themselves.

You may have a point. Will wait to see if Apple updates their Studio displays next year or some other larger display…

16 GB M4 Mac mini for US$499/599, with 5 USB-C ports, 8K 60 Hz support, and triple display support.

My 30” still works :) but has burn-in at the edges. :(

My holy grail monitor is a pixel doubled / quadrupled 5K 30” ACD at 5120x3200 16:10, 202 ppi (not 218 ppi).

It's not just Apple. The days of well made products being 'affordable' are long gone...

Ford Motors, advertising the Model T in the 1920s:
"Ford, the Universal Car."

Ford press release 2023:
“The days of being all things to all people are over at Ford,” Farley said. “We’re developing and delivering connected, digital products that give customers tailored ownership experiences - opening up diverse revenue pools and unprecedented growth for us instead of jockeying for slivers of share with complex hardware in over-served vehicle categories.”

Sort of OT, buuuuut……
I noticed recently that ALL higher rez (4k/5k) monitors have damn awful energy ratings.

Ratings A-G, some cheaper models are actually G rated, even Apple/Samsung are E/F.
I am pretty shocked at Apple for not being A/B rated, as all Macs are very energy efficient.

Many, but not all. My Dell P2715Q (an old model, yes, discontinued, but equivalent to many current models- 4K, 60hz, IPS) has an average power consumption of 50W and a maximum of about 95W. That still beats a lot of newer models, like the Samsung S8 27". Pretty appalling in many respects that progress hasn't been made in cutting that power consumption.
