HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

(on a side note, I actually am waiting for financial reasons, but I know enough not to bring up the topic this soon!)

Yep, I like the new refresh a lot, but its just not enough of an improvement over my Core2 2.33, will seriously consider it at next refresh.

I think next refresh will get Blu-Ray as well (atleast as an option)

I'm waiting for the next case re-design. One is sooooo near to arriving that I would be gutted for me to buy a laptop which I want to own for at least 3 years to get an update in terms of case design within the first 6months to a year of ownership.

I predict that there will be quite a few people waiting for the next (Summer/Autumn) update for the simple fact that the design has not changed at all.

Some people have got bored with it and many didn't like the magnetic latch. (I agree they should've changed this at least). Others really wanted the MacBook style keyboard finding the MBP style too soft and mushy. Personally, I've always loved the MBP style keyboards (but I know the majority don't).

Let's not forget the other pet peeve; the lack of a high resolution display for the 15" model (e.g. 1680x1050 or for some even higher) and no Blu-ray option.

But in my personal opinion I think the update's not too bad. If you look at the standard 15" model you now get:

  • 256MB of graphics RAM
  • 200GB HDD
  • 2.4GHz processor
  • Potential higher battery life thanks to Penryn
  • Multi touch trackpad

You can't really complain ... but people will (like they always do!) ... :D

P.S. No remote as standard really is a joke and it was completely unnecessary to remove it.

I find its VERY hard to justify this purchase right now considering that they'll probably do a full case redesign. But then again I need a computer lol..

i will update when standard model gets remote. lol

I can't possibly imagine what can you STILL ask for...

I mean...this update is like having everything included...

I'm waiting. But I do not need a new notebook until September. When aug comes around I will decide between the pro and air. As a student I think the air is perfect. But I will see if here are any updates on heteo lines.

i hope for a new design. I'm in the market but not really. Before graduation i'll pick one up so if they don't get updated i'll get it they are updated kudos to me :D

putting software aside, apple notebooks are still highly overpriced as compared to other notebooks with better hardware... i've wondered why that is.

it must be the "cool" factor

I think that is somewhat of a misnomer, and one of the reasons I switched from PCs to Macs.

That being said, I just bought a MB less than a month ago, so I won't be purchasing a MBP for at least another 6-12 months, unless some foo...er generous person wants to give me what I paid for mine. :D

OSX aside

show me another 1" thin aluminum notebook with a 1440x900 LED display, backlight keyboard, firewire 800 DVI output and with multitouch that runs as quiet and for as long as these things

then you can attribute it to "cool" factor

If you read various threads in the forums you'll see that the general consensus on price premium can be attributed to the following factors:

  • Mac OS - Ease of use and lack of viruses, spyware, adware
  • iLife
  • Design
  • Higher resale value - Thanks to less frequent updates
  • Brand name and image - That Apple / BMW / Mercedes logo means a lot

So it's not always as simple as comparing specs directly; there are other, sometimes less tangible, features to take into account.
