Hey there...

MBP mid 2012 (modded with 16gb ram, ssd, and optibay) running yosemite since February.

A few days ago I had a sudden shut down (it happens sometimes lately, not sure what the reason is... maybe overheating since it's been very hot here... but this isn't the main topic right now), and when rebooted I got the "forbidden" symbol. Some other try and entering verbose mode revealed the "still waiting for root device" message.

I think the shut down might have occurred during a system upgrade... so I guess something got corrupted in the system.

I don't use time machine.

I have an external drive with Mavericks installed for such emergencies and I'm now running it. I'm able to access the system disk and I've already saved an image of the disk just in case (mainly to recover some data).

Before formatting and reinstalling the system, anything I can try? To be honest I'm pessimist, as i think the system might be in an inconsistent status.. but well, you guys know all the tricks, so I'm trying...

Any hints?

Thanks and greetings from italy
