Hey guys,

I recently bought another 8gig iPhone and shipped it to somebody oversea's that I knew. Anyhow he never recieved it. I was wondering since it was brand new, can it be tracked if someone did activated it in the US? I know they would have to go through i-Tunes to do it. I didn't know if this was a police matter or should I just let UPS pay the claim since I did put insurance on it.

Thanks,
Chad

a) where did you buy it from
b) what service did you use to ship it

I would be going to those 2 people first, before pronouncing it stolen...

I shipped it through UPS and it did make it to its destination just wasnt in the box when it got there. Now, is their a way to trace the serial number if somehow activates it in the US through i-Tunes?

answer the questions posted above, and this:

did you make a copy of the sticker at the bottom of the box, containing the IMEI, ICCID, and a bunch of other codes?

chances are that an iphone overseas will never be activated through AT&T.

good thing you put insurance on it-- that royally stinks! so, basically someone stole it out of the box and resealed it?

definitely get the police involved ( I'm sure you already have) and then collect your insurance money for it and let it be their problem.. Good move getting that insurance..

Wirelessly posted (Apple Communication Device: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Tell your friend to keep all the packing material. UPS will want to examine everything.

UPS is pretty good...

about replacing lost, stolen or damaged insured items. Just make sure you have the documentation attached to your claim. It's always good to get copies for yourself, (this includes the claim) and the person you were sending it to, since this is delaying their purchased goods.

Anyhow, the main answer to your question is,
There isn't any way you can trace, or locate your iPhone or iPod when it's connected to iTunes.

Apple could locate with IP address, but they don't care!
They care only about selling as many as possible, so why would they help finding stolen ones?!

If you got it first time, you will get it second time as well.
That's the policy!
