Hi everybody,

I'm based in the UK. A good friend of mine based in Germany bought two iPhone 4 (16GB) from the UK Apple Online store (it wasn't available in Germany without a contract, or it was more expensive) and asked whether she could provide my UK address for the delivery (Apple UK requires a UK address).

I said yes of course, she's a good friend of mine.

3 weeks ago the 2 iPhone 4 arrived. I went to the local DHL branch and posted the two items (without insurance). I paid £40.

4 weeks on and the DHL guy confirmed they've gone missing. They cannot locate them.

Somebody stole them. According to the DHL tracker they went to Gatwick, then back to Heathrow, then Gatwick again and Heathrow again. They they 'lost it'.

What can I do? Is there a way to retrieve/locate a brand new iPhone 4? Or to make it unusable?

Some people should be shot in the eye!

No insurance that was your first mistake. Keep on DHL until they find them. They are gone, no tracing of them.

Isn't the insurance only for broken? If completely loose it, they should cover it anyway

DHL Is a horrible company. That is why we kicked them out of America.

Agree, Apple decided to use DHL as thier shipping provider for a case, what a horrible choice, but at least I got my case way earlier than the expected shipping date.

I like UPS or FedEX more.

What in the world were you thinking? Huge mistake on your part.

Will only receive £100 back instead of the £1000 they paid, but really silly to not have insurance on such high-value items.

Agreed, not a smart move by the OP.

Unfortunately, you are first in line for not getting insurance.:p

Same thing happened with my 2 ipod touches posted via UPS Mail innovations.
You should have purchased insurance, without it you're pretty much screwed.

On a side note, a friend of mine that works for ups has seen items fall off trucks, only to be taken home by workers. That's probably what happened here.

this guy has them!

Thanks everybody for your help...

Yes, I know I should have taken out the insurance. I did tell this friend of mine (the iPhones are hers) that she should use UPS instead of DHL and with insurance, but she declined because DHL was £50 whereas UPS (w/o insurance) was already £100.

I always use UPS only too.

Pity...
