Last month I purchased MacBook for my daughter for Xmas. We had big family and friends celebration in our house and the laptop has disappeared. Was brand new unopened and sealed don’t know who took it don’t want to blame anyone is there any chance I can ever find out or track it? Please help

You should file a police report for a theft complaint if you haven't. Also, where did you purchase the MacBook from? If you have any information regarding the serial number, you can pass that along to Apple and advise them if someone tries to bring it in for a repair or exchange/return.

Don’t really want to involve police as it must be someone from family I do have serial number but would Apple be able to locate the person when they register device ? I don’t want to make it really loud as I will fell out with family but would like to know who that was.

I'm genuinely confused. You're basically saying you had some family members over for a gathering and one of them allegedly stole the MacBook from your house, which you refuse to confront whoever it was or file a police report, yet you want to know who it was by tracking the MacBook? Why even bother if you're not going take any action on this? It seems to me that you're more concerned about the suspect than you are the MacBook being stolen.

Even if you give Apple the serial number and tell them it was stolen, they're not going to release any information to you if this is a criminal matter, which I would assume they would want to know if you filed a police report or not, which is what most do in a situation with stolen property.

Unless the Macbook was set up with an apple ID, there is nothing to prevent anyone from setting it up and locking it to an apple ID.

Apple won't automatically flag a machine as lost or stolen without providing proof of ownership.

After rethinking about this thread and your posts in here, I personally think there is an alterior motive after what you're seeking for "Tracking the serial number". Your situation doesn't make any sense to me and it's in my opinion, I don't believe what you're asking.

When you're referring about a $1200 MacBook being stolen and you're not interested in finding the MacBook, but only wanting to know who stole it, is highly suspicious. Its My thoughts, you're in possession of a stolen MacBook and you're concerned that It might be able to be tracked back to you when you use it.
