Stop a volume from mounting on boot?

Hello, is there any way to stop a volume from automatically mounting on boot? I've used Linux briefly and I know it used a file called /etc/fstab, but no such file exists in OS X, is there some way to stop a volume from auto mounting when I boot? Thanks
