Stop iPhone user from being able to “call a certain number”

Hi guys.

My grandfather keeps pocket dialing our lawyer.. charging $600 a pocket dial.

Trying to “disable” him from calling that particular number..

Is it possible through parental settings or similar?

The lawyer won’t block it on their end..

Take it out of contacts, make sure it's gone from recent call list, favorites and messages. Can't pocket dial it then unless he can dial the actual number while the phone is in his pocket. But sounds like there's more to this than is being said.

Delete the number from his contacts.. Not ideal but at least it won't be a $600+ mistake ever again..
 
I believe if you block the # you wont be able to call it.
If that solution might work out, try it with your number first to see that it works as expected.

First $600 charge I'd ask if he was joking. If the answer was no, that'd be the end of that relationship.

If the story is true (I have my doubts), I would have reported the lawyer's actions to the local Bar Association. But I don't think we heard the whole of the story in this case.

Yea sorry man I am not that bored to make up random stories for thread topics for others to read and help me with. What is a Bar association?
 
Why not add the code to the number in your contacts to block caller ID, then the lawyer won't know who it is calling them?

I know you can do this in the UK, not sure about the US.

But if you're wanting to go to the extreme of blocking him calling the number, as others have said why not just remove the number from his contacts as he obviously doesn't need it?

No ethical lawyer would do this, since no actual conversation went on with the client. Also, I don't know a lawyer who charges for a minimum of an hour for single phone calls. And does this lawyer actually answer his own phone?

A professional association of lawyers, like the American Bar Association (there are lots of local bar associations).

The conduct you describe is completely unethical and the local bar could take actions against this attorney. How many other victims of this guy are there? You do them a disservice by not reporting them.

Beyond the technical question this is all none of our business, really, and the OP should have asked the question about blocking an outgoing call without adding the details which have hijacked the thread.

What iOS needs is a system-wide switch that would pop up a dialog box asking to confirm outgoing calls. Jailbreakers can get a tweak that does this (me included).

If it's possible that Siri is dialing when the phone is locked you can turn off Siri access when locked in the "Touch ID & Passcode" (or "Face ID & Passcode") settings. I really don't know how a call can occur in a "pocket" without it being Siri mis-hearing something.
 
Ensure a passcode or Touch ID or Face ID is set and ensure screen is set to turn off within a reasonable time (ideally no longer than a minute). This greatly reduces any risk of ‘pocket dialling’ in general. This is how 99% of iPhones are configured though

OP could have done that but didn’t. They can also deal with the various responses themselves. In reality not all problems have or should have a technological fix. I’m glad OP shared more details as it’s allowed others to offer advice on the root of the problem. The treatment and exploitation of older (perhaps vulnerable?) people by others with more money and power is absolutely everyone’s business, we can tackle such social problems together. 🙏
