I use gmail for my email and have always. what seems to be happening now is periodically, the "mail" app opens up and wants me to create an account. I've done it, but since removed the account because I just rather go into gmail to get my mail. How can I stop the Mail app from opening and wanting me to create an account?

Does Mail just open out of the blue or when you click a "mailto" link?
I assume you use Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, is that correct?

It may be launching because it's the default mail app. If you click on certain links, it will attempt to launch your default mail client. Why not configure Mail to access your Gmail account? It works quite well.

How-to: Proper Gmail IMAP for iPhone & Apple Mail

I am using OSX Lion with current updates. Mail opens up usually when I boot up the computer kind of out of the blue. Not when I open a mailto link. Actually haven't tried the mailto link so not sure what it would do if I tried that.

Checked the items you mentioned. Can't seem to figure out how to do the second two?

Do you have any iCal events with email reminders? If not, ignore this post. If so, iCal is trying to send them and is looking for the mail account attached to the contact that you have designated as "Make This My Card". You should turn off email reminders for iCal.

My solution: compress and delete Mail

I've just down this:

- compress Mail app to a .zip file
- delete Mail app

If I need it back I can grab it from my zip archive.

UPDATE: Mac os x says I can't delete it because its required by mac os X. Stink buzz.
