Stop Messages From Popping Up?

Is it possible to stop the messages icon from popping up on my dock whenever i get an iMessage on my iPhone? I'm not signed in to the messages app on my Mac, and I only have my phone number set to receive messages on my phone (not my iCloud or apple id).
