I have a program that starts up when i switch on the iMac, (sketchbook express)
How do I stop this happening?

I've had a good look at preferences but cannot find a solution yet?
....Gary

Control-click on it's icon in the dock to bring up the menu and deselect: Options > Open at Login. It will be ticked at present indicating it's in your start up applications.

Than you for your reply,

Just tried that and it was not ticked?
....Gary
Edit: Just switched the iMac off, restarted again all good?
Will let it have a sleep and have another look in the morning

If it continues, check the following locations:

Macintosh HD/Library/LaunchAgents
Macintosh HD/Library/LaunchDaemons

You should delete associated files to that specific application and reboot. It should work.

Much appreciated,
Where do I find that?
I had a look at disk utility but couldn't find it there
Sorry, I'm one of those "old technology challenged" guys, still love it but wished I had taken on computers years ago

No need to say sorry, we are here to help :)

Open finder and press command shift g keys at the same time, a window will pop up saying "Go to the folder". Just paste this to the box:

/Library

And hit enter. There you will see two folders named LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons.

Very easy to follow, thank you!
Did not find any reference in either folder
When I started up the system this morning, no problems
The previous 3 mornings started up with the sketchbook express?
Glad it has gone,
now I know where to look,
Regards,
Gary

You can check the following locations for apps that automatically launch on startup and delete any you don't need/want:
  • System Preferences > Users & Groups > yourusername > Login Items (SL and older: System Preferences > Accounts > yourusername > Login Items)
  • In Finder, click Go > Go to Folder > /Library/LaunchAgents
  • In Finder, click Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/LaunchAgents
  • In Finder, click Go > Go to Folder > /Library/StartupItems
