On my last system upgrade (to Yosemite) Photos replaced iPhoto (and its better). However whenever my wife or I plug our iPhones into our iMac, iPhotos launches (and takes its time to do so!). How can I stop this and forget iPhoto, and just get Photos to launch when its wanted, not every time? I use Lightroom which allows me to import directly from an iPhone, but my wife only needs Photos.

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Attach the iPhone then launch Image Capture app and in the lower left is a dropdown where you can chose what action to take when that device is attached. Click the dropdown and change it from iPhoto to "No application."

Or if you want that to be the default for all attached devices there is a similar setting iPhoto preferences.

You can see screenshots of it here.
